Creating pathways, connection and possibility for young people with disabilities across Western Australia.
The Kinetic Futures Program is an experience led, disability-driven initiative founded, delivered and championed by Paralympian, World medalist and disability advocate Rhiannon Clarke. With a mission to increase participation, connection, and opportunity for young people with disabilities across Western Australia, the project delivers recurring, high-quality athletics sessions designed specifically for para juniors aged 9–16 years.
Grounded in Rhiannon’s lived experience growing up with cerebral palsy, and shaped by her journey from local community sport to the world stage, the project exists to ensure that young people with disabilities no longer have to stumble upon opportunity, it will be brought directly to them, in environments where they feel welcomed, understood and empowered.
Building on the already proven Kinetic Track Squad pathway. This project will ensure that young athletes receive real advice from experts within the field who understand individual needs and value what each individual can bring to the collective.
Securing their future development, the development of para athletics in Western Australia and finding the Future Kinetic Champions.
Project Streams
1. Inclusive Coaching & Connection
Weekly, inclusive athletics sessions focused on developing sprinting, jumping and fundamental movement skills in a fun, supportive, and safe environment.
These sessions combine:
-Skill development tailored to a wide range of abilities
-Mentorship and role-model exposure from para athletes and experienced coaches
-Opportunities for social connection and peer support for both athletes and parents
-A pathway for building confidence, independence and a love of movement and athletics
-The aim is simple: create a place where young people with disabilities can belong, progress, and thrive.
2. Outreach & Talent Identification
The Kinetic Futures Project takes a proactive approach to reaching young people who may not yet see sport as an option. This stream includes:
-School visits (mainstream and education-support settings)
-Come and Try sessions
-Collaboration with allied health professionals, disability organisations and community groups
-Clear referral pathways connecting families to the right programs, whether the goal is confidence, physical literacy, or high-performance opportunities
-This approach ensures that no child is missed simply because they haven't been exposed to the right environment or support.
Why It Matters
Para Athletics pathways in Western Australia are limited, and typically run only when specific funding has been aquired resulting in many young people facing unnecessary barriers to accessing sport. The Kinetic Futures Project fills this critical gap by:
-Providing consistent, accessible entry points into athletics
-Bringing world leading knowledge from elite performance to the start of the pathway
-Creating community and support networks around young athletes and their families
-Opening meaningful pathways toward both participation and performance
-Allowing young people to see themselves represented by athletes like Rhiannon, and to imagine what’s possible.
“You can’t be what you can’t see.”
Through the Kinetic Futures Project, young people won’t just see what’s possible, they’ll experience it for themselves.
